Tiheshace Greene and Nicholas Smith Identified in Fatal I-26 Wrong-Way Crash in Charleston County – CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C.— Authorities have released the identities of the two individuals killed in a devastating wrong-way collision on Interstate 26 early Monday morning.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Tiheshace Greene, 44, of Ladson, and Nicholas Smith, 26, of North Charleston.

According to Deputy Coroner Brittney Martin, Greene died at the scene from blunt force injuries sustained in the 12:44 a.m. crash. Smith was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina, where he succumbed to his injuries later that morning at 8:18 a.m.

Preliminary information from the South Carolina Highway Patrol indicates the collision involved a 2019 Volkswagen and a 2008 Chevrolet SUV on I-26 eastbound near mile marker 216. Investigators state the Volkswagen was traveling west in the eastbound lanes prior to the impact.

The coroner confirmed Greene was a passenger in one vehicle, while Smith was the driver of the other. Their vehicles were separate at the time of the crash.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol’s investigation into the cause of the wrong-way driving and the fatal collision remains active and ongoing.
